Standardized Academic Tests

If you plan on going to college, you may have to take a standardized academic test. Many schools require you to take either the ACT (American College Test) or the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test). Check with your high school counselor or the schools you're interested in attending to find out what test or tests they require you to take.

Residents of Arizona planning to attend a 4 year college or university may be expected to obtain a composite score of at least 22 on the ACT or at least a 1040 on the SAT.

Plan, Prepare, & Practice..

It is important that you prepare for these tests by studying and taking sample tests. By knowing what type of questions and the question format, you will be more prepared to do your best. Many websites offer free practice tests and studying help. For more information ask your counselor about study groups, tutors, and testing agencies that will help you improve your score.

By taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) in fall of your junior year in high school, you not only prepare for the SAT, based on your score, you may qualify for a National Merit Scholarship.
